It's Flag Day in the United States. The U.S. flag has been flown almost everywhere on Earth - and a few places beyond. In 1971, the all University of Michigan Alum crew of Apollo 15 planted a U.S. flag on the surface of the moon, where it, presumably, flies to this day.

 

 

As a side story, for decades, the rumor on campus was that there was a U of M flag on the moon, planted by the Wolverine astronauts. But - despite what campus tour guides say - that rumor is NOT true. Here's the sad proof.
