The tradition of bridge jumping in Eaton Rapids may soon be coming to an end.

According to WILX 10, council members of Eaton Rapids "are working on an ordinance that would ban bridge jumping." For over a decade now, people have been jumping off the bridges, whether to mark a special occasion or just for fun.

Also for over a decade now, people have gotten injured jumping off bridges, and that's the primary reason for the council wanting to pass the ordinance. City Manager Jon Stoppels says he learns of accounts of people "drowning, hurting themselves or even becoming paralyzed." Stoppels hopes that the passing of the ordinance will help "protect the health and welfare of our citizens." Read more about the possible ban here
