Last weekend, my lovely wife Michelle and I went "up north" to do something we'd never done before. We stayed overnight on Mackinac Island. We'd been there several times on day trips, but we'd never been there in the fall and we'd never stayed overnight. We stayed at the "Bicycle Street Inn" right on Main Street had dinner at the Pink Pony and adult beverages at Goodfellow's Grill. And we went into every...single....shop. (And, no - this isn't one of those, "write about us and we'll give you the trip for free" deals. We paid for everything. I'm trying to tell you that it can be done for cheaper than you've heard.) It was from half to maybe a third of the price of staying at the Grand Hotel - but the Bicycle Street Inn was nice, modern and right downtown. So we gave up a room with a lot of wallpaper and the longest porch in the world, but we saved some money. Bottom line - we had a great time.

Something I had never seen before on Mackinac Island was a full size cruise ship, anchored beyond the harbor. On Sunday morning we saw it sitting out there and heard a lot of tourists speaking German. I did a little investigating and I believe that ship was the MS Hamburg, a German cruise ship operating out of Montreal.

On the way home, Michelle and I talked about how beautiful Michigan is (geez, it's like I'm channeling Tim Allen all of a sudden) and how we can get to almost anything in (Lower) Michigan in three or four hours, when a lot of people come from all over the world to see it. We made a goal is to see a lot more of Michigan than we already have.

So get ready for a lot of lighthouse and moose photos here.
