Country Stars Step Up to Support Nashville Guitarist Grieving Death of 17-Month-Old Son

Mac Carmichael Carmichael Fund

Country stars like Buddy Jewell, Collin Raye and John Berry are doing what they can to help a Nashville guitarist who’s played for Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley and more. Hunter Carmichael’s son Mac died last week after choking on food at a Nashville mall food court. Everyone involved wants to do what they can to make sure the boy is remembered forever.

That means setting up the Mac Carmichael Fund. Money donated or raised will go to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital Williamson Medical Center in Mac’s honor. Tuesday night (Dec. 22) over $5,400 was raised at a John Berry concert in Tifton, Ga., Hunter Carmichael’s hometown. WALB-TV in Albany, Ga. reports that the money was raised during a raffle that included a guitar signed by Berry.

McCall Alexander Carmichael was born in July 2014 and spent time in the NICU at Williamson Medical, according to an adorable and heartbreaking obituary that lists all of his nicknames, interests — “MAC loved dinosaurs (RAHR! RAHR!)” — and favorite foods. The fund has been started to bring “’MAC sized Miracles’ to children and families who find themselves in need.”

MAC was “the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, muppetational” little boy. We were blessed to have him in our lives and know that his life will continue to bless others.

On their respective Facebook pages, Jewell praised the way the Carmichael family was dealing with this loss, while Raye urged his fans to pray for the couple. Taste of Country joins those who were blessed to have met Mac in extending our deepest sympathies to the family.
