Congrats to NASCAR Champion (and friend to MI) Martin Truex Jr

Martin Truex Jr is your 2017 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Champion. He won the race yesterday at Homestead and because of that - the Championship.

And his Michigan connections are celebrating today. One of his main sponsors, Lansing's own Auto-Owners Insurance, just recently upped their level of sponsorship. According to MLive.com, two weeks ago his car owner and boss, Barney Visser, had a heart attack. And yesterday was the day his mentor and one of his first car owners, Dale Earnhardt Jr, retired. But, it was his girlfriend Sherry Pollex, from Brighton, currently fighting ovarian cancer, who was his main inspiration this season. When Sherry got to him after the race, "I told him, 'That's how you never give up.'"

So, we can probably forgive him for being a little emotional in the post race interviews.
