I've been to Mackinac Island several times. I've stayed overnight there a couple times. And I've seen the DVDs playing in the shops that show what the island looks like during winter. They load the horses on the boats and once they're gone, everybody rides around on snowmobiles. I figured the whole place shut down as the full time residents take a break from the tourists, until spring.

I guess I was wrong. Again.

This weekend, Mackinac Island hosts their annual Christmas Bazaar. According to MLive.com, the festivities started today and continue through Monday. Santa Claus will even be there tomorrow, but I guess that's a short flight down for him - and you know that guy likes his fudge. The auctions and sales benefit the medical center and the churches on the island.

Huh. You learn something new every day.

Sounds like fun. Star Line runs the ferries out of St. Ignace for the winter:
