Why does my German Shepherd, Axel, hate my snow blower?

Every time I go out to clean off my driveway, he is NOT happy with my snow blower's presence. Is it the noise? Is it just because it's on his turf? Does he perceive it as something claiming my attention for the next hour when I could be throwing his nasty, frozen tennis ball at him? (Axel, if you're reading this, there's nothing between me and the snow blower)

And sadly, as these photos demonstrate, he doesn't even know where he should direct his anger - the nasty spinning blades or the part that shoots snow at him. Any ideas?
