Three U.S. Air Force Special Operations airmen will be honored today at Pope Field (Fort Bragg) in North Carolina, for their part in a battle in Afghanistan this past fall. The three are USAF Combat Controllers. They have much of the same training as Navy SEALS or Delta Force operators, who they frequently work with, but their main job is to call in airstrikes when things get hairy. And last September 27th, things got real hairy for these guys and the soldiers they were fighting with.

According to the Washington Post, Senior Airman Dustin H. Temple will be awarded the Air Force Cross, which ranks just below the Medal of Honor - the highest military honor you can receive. Tech. Sgt. Matthew J. Greiner and Senior Airman Goodie J. Goodman will both be awarded the Silver Star which is two levels below the Medal of Honor.
